Trip to alpine mountains

We are and old age couple visiting Salzburg. Our interest is scenic beauty and snow covered mountains.
We would like to visit Zell Am See. What is most economical way to visit Zell Am See.
Which is alpine peak covered in Snow. We will be reaching around May 7 - 2016. Please advise a place and route how to visit that and how much time it will take.
Any other place near Salzburg to visit.

With Thanks

Take the 840 bus to Berchtesgaden (40mins) then go to the nearby lake (Koenigsee), stunning beautiful lake, surrounded by mountains, our photos of Salzburg/ Koenigsee on this album

You can do walks along the second lake, there are beer gardens, my 80 year old aunt walked the lakeside trail but it does get a bit wet and rocky and we were there in summer. A full day trip from Salzburg.

In a previous visit we had also included a cablecar ride up Mt Jenner, which is a short walk from ferry jetty.

If Zell am See is also planned as a day trip:
There are direct regional trains every 2 hours from Salzburg main station.
Check for timetables.

The most economical way would be to use the discount "Einfach-Raus-Ticket".
It will cost €36 return for the two of you traveling together.
This fare comes with the restriction that it's not valid before 9am on weekdays. No restriction on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays.
