Michael, Enjoyed your report, but none of the links in the report work. I wanted to see some places you stayed and restaurants where you ate, but alas no luck!

Here are the pictures:

I am not happy with Photoworks. It's the third time since 2008 that they've changed the URL. Some day I will not be needing them anymore.

And here are some of the other links:

http://www.hotelakay.com/about.asp

http://www.pachahotel.com/

http://www.oldgreekhouse.com/

I think that most of the places mentioned can be via a Google search. I do not know why all these links stopped working.

Once more. It appears that the closing parenthesis is included in the imbedded URL. Eliminate it and the URL should work, excluding the references to Photoworks.

Michael, this is the second one of your reports I've read and bookmarked in the last week, in preparation for our upcoming trips (Turkey will actually be before Norway; 7 days in Istanbul and 3 in Cappadocia in March/April). I think we must be following you around :) Where are you going next?

Thanks for all of the detail and for sharing your photos. I've also moved on from Webshots/Photoworks. Besides problems with links, all the flashing ads were driving me nuts.

Michael...I know it has been a couple of years since your time in Turkey, but I enjoyed reading your trip report. I wrote down many of the restaurants you recommend for our upcoming trip in Dec. 2010.

I also wanted to say Thank you for the information on Economy Car Rental inside the Izmir airport. This rental company gets many thumbs up, but I couldn't find it on the Izmir airport website. Your detailed report now provides me with the name of the counter we shold look for.

Thanks again!
Loomi

Economy Car Rentals is a broker. One is unlikely to find a counter with that name in any airport, and while Decar is a big rental agency in Turkey (they had a rental office in Kayseri and Ürgüp), it does not guarantee that it is the only agency that Economy Car Rentals would use.

I am bookmarking but also wondering what was the weather like as we are thinking of May travel to Turkey as well
Thanks

We had some stormy days, as you can see from the photographs. But generally we had late spring weather; not too warm.

I'm resurrecting this thread to thank Michael for his extremely helpful trip report. I'm in the very, very early stages of planning a 3-4 week trip to Turkey and am definitely reaping the benefit of your wisdom.

I really appreciate the many details you provide, such as your information about arriving at Istanbul's airports, the usual breakfast fare in Turkey, and the waterfront area in Istanbul. Thanks, too, for the implicit assurance that I can probably manage a rental car if that's what works best for me on this trip.

You mention an old Greek village near Kusadasi that you described as "less than meets the eye." Was that perhaps Sirince?

Thanks again for the invaluable information.

kja,

thanks for the compliment. It was this park, and the village is on the south side. I believe that the photos at the end of the article represent that village, most of which was gated when we were there, having been transformed into a residential resort.

Thanks, Michael - that helps a lot. I thought you had already moved on to Kusakasi when you visited this village, so I clearly misunderstood. I haven't had a chance to look through your other photos yet - I know they'll be wonderful and inspiring (as always).
