Trip Report: Sardinia in September (Hither and Thither)
Aron and I traveled around Sardinia--visiting the Golfo de Orosei, Costa Rei, and the capital-city of Cagliari--on a very brief holiday. We had a wonderful time and owe some of our choices to the helpful exchanges we had on the forum. As suggested, we enjoyed the coast by Cala Gonone most of all, but that may have had to do with our renting a boat (so much fun!).
We posted a trip report on http://www.hitherandthither.net/ All of the travelogues are linked in the right-side column. Thank you again for the help! Hope we can return the favor... Happy travels! |
Gorgeous photos!

Thank you!

I enjoyed reading this--great photos, too!
I love the straw fedora, and all the shots of the food, and the gorgeous water! |
Thank you! I bought the hat there and was sorry that, when we returned to New York, there weren't more opportunities to wear it. It's on to woolen hats, now.

You drove through Lotzorai where we live, between Baunei and Tortolì. Glad you had a nice time, Peter

Peter, that is so cool! Its nice to hear from a local!

Thanks again for all of your helpful advice, Peter! We took it to heart! (P.S. That must have been my husband who replied just before me.)

You had mentioned that you had been to Corsica on a prior trip. Can you tell me which island you preferred and why? We're going to Sicily and either Sardinia or Corsica, and I'm having trouble picking one. Either way, we'll plan to take a day trip by ferry to the island we don't choose. From my initial look, Sardinia may have the edge because I can fly there from Rome and I think I want to use that as the gateway since I can fly back from Sicily to Rome. I didn't see any low-cost carrier flights to Corsica from Rome, but I haven't checked the major airlines yet. Thanks for your opinion.

My daughter and I visited Sardinia for a week in 2007. We spent the entire week in Cala Gonone. We rented a boat for two days and had a blast. It was our first experience of captaining a small boat ! What a grand feel of freedom. We even saw a man driving in the nude. We exchanged greetings and headed for our own private beach. The colors of the water were exquisite.

Sounds wonderful, Susie!
Barefootbeach--that's such a difficult question and I'm not really sure I could compare. It sounds like your instinct to go with the easier flight might be a good one. If you're planning to daytrip to Corsica from Sardinia, you'll likely be visiting the North of Sardinia--which, unfortunately, we didn't get to visit. I can't imagine you'll be disappointed with either place! It sounds like a wonderful dilemma. Good luck! |
