I'm heading off to Paris in 2 weeks and have jotted down a few things from your post. Do you have the address of La Truffiere? Sounds great!

Also I don't know anything about the Deportation Memorial. Can you fill me in? Where it is, the story behind it? thank you!

stormygirl, Oh how I envy you. La Truffiere is at 4 Rue Blainville, just off Rue Mouffetard. Enjoy and please do write and tell us what you think after you have been.

The Deportation Memorial is on the Ile de Cite behind Notre Dame. When you exit the church walk around behind it and cross the street. The memorial is in a little park on the end of the island. It commemorates the French who went to concentration camps. It is a stark and moving place. Don't miss the explanation of the different badges that were required for gays, Jews and the simply politically incorrect.

what a lovely trip - pity I never checked - my husband and I were in Paris at the same time celebrating our first aniversary - we could have met for drinks - don't you wish we were there now?????

michelleinPA, I wish we were all sitting at Cafe Mabillon with a cheese plate, some crusty French bread and a carafe of wine. We would talk for hours, and nobody would mind that we all had goat cheese breath. Don't you think that the best friendships could be formed that way?

I would literally KILL for some bread and cheese right now (worked right through lunch) I say - meet you at the airport.....!!!

Thanks for sharing your trip with us! I too just returned from Paris. On Sunday, while shopping on rue Mouffetard, we saw many people with jonquils; some with single flowers, some with bunches of them, and some with little glass vases filled with them. We were wondering what the occasion was!

you are making me eager for my own trip in two weeks! were you exhausted after day 2 - notre dame, st. chappelle, samarataine, and montmartre? we want to be at notre dame early as well to make the climb, but i'm worried i won't have much strength left after that.

melissa19, the ND climb is not so bad. I have asthma and was expecting the worst. But I didn't even need the inhaler at the top.

We were so excited that first full day that we couldn't make ourselves stop after Sainte-Chapelle. And the midafternoon cafe break helped us.

I really appreciate the info on the restaurant and the memorial, thank you. We'll definately try to catch both.

I'm off in three weeks.....now I am even more excited! What great descriptions....can't imagine anybody thinking anything negative. Is La Truffiere walkable from St. Germain De Pres area (from around Cafe Flore?). I also admire your use of the metro - you made it sound easy and I must admit, I feel a little intimidated by it.

I am off in eight weeks; this was excellent. The only part that worried me is that it made me realize how poorly I'm going to eat. I don't know what any of the food items you discussed are. :( Nine days of water and croissants I guess for me.

westiedogs, La Truffiere would be a hike from Cafe Flore. I would hop the metro from Mabillon to Maubert-Mutualite or Cardinal Lemoine, and walk from there. If you're new to subways, the Paris one is good to cut your teeth on. During the day, it's not crowded, and inside each car there's a map over the windows that shows the stops for that train.

mdtravel, eating stuff you haven't a clue about is half the fun! You will eat so many wonderful things. Just steer clear of tripes and andouillete unless you're very adventurous.

Another thank you for a fun, informative read. I like the way you pace yourself, both in writing and travel, and hope my wife and I can similarly restrain ourselves when we're in Paris for a week later this year.
