Thanks all. i do think 7 nights is too tough for Madrid and Barcelona. Granada will not fit in.
So, do a week in Madrid with a side trip to Teledo and Segovia or 3 nights Sevilla and 4 Madrid? i hope we will return but with 2 small kids it is tough and expensive to get a sitter.
i just read a recent report on Sevilla and the author was less than ethusiastic. does the alcazar impress? i know it is not the alhambra...when will renovations end? thanks

You'll never find a location that everyone overwhelmingly loves - so many people so many opinions :)
And you never know the itinerary someone was following (was it too much and they were tired) or their state (sick, having a bad day) when they made a visit. I've visited some cities 2-3 times and had a totally different impression on a second trip.

The Alcazar in Sevilla is quite impressive - not the Alhambra but very nice. You may even be able to squeeze in a half day stop in Cordoba along the way from Sevilla to Madrid if you decide to visit these 2.

I combined Madrid and Granada in 7 days last year; granted, it was not my first trip to either city, but I felt that we had ample time to explore. I wrote a trip report.

Is the Alcazar in Sevilla undergoing major renovations?

CathyM Oct 19th, 2012 11:10 AM

I think the reference was to the renovations at the Alhambra. I didn't see any major renovations at the Alcazar in Sevilla earlier this year in March.

Madrid/Granada is another good 7 day trip - it's just not as easy (quick) logistically to get to/from Granada as Sevilla with the AVE.

What a great report. Loved all the food details. If it weren´t 8.30 in the morning I'd be salivating for any of your meals!!

Susan: thanks for a great report on two great cities!!!

Thank you for your report. As another poster said, the Alhambra is undergoing restoration(when I was there in March, the famous fountain with the lions was not working and the flooring was being repaired. That said, I agree with you about Madrid as it is more formal and Spanish than Barcelona. I was surprised how much I liked Madrid and for the most part the people were friendly and polite.

Susan-I tried to look up the Madrid apt but the link says the page doesn't exist. How do you search by number on that site?
Thanks

SusanInToronto Nov 11th, 2012 11:21 AM

The link is

https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/196336

But if you can't find it, it is listed as ATTIC IN MADRID CENTER - La Latina.

Susan, would you recommend the Air B&B you stayed in, in Madrid, for a family of 4 which includes a baby and a toddler ?

IMDonehere Dec 23rd, 2016 11:28 AM

This thread is four years old.

atreug Dec 29th, 2016 07:10 AM

I know, but hoping she would remember and recommend or not.

Hmmm, I did just see this. Not sure if it would be suitable for a family - it's really one large room, so it might difficult when the kids go to sleep - you'd have to be very quiet.Probably better for a couple.
