Hi LauraF!!

Our family of 4 is going to Paris/Normandy in September and I still need to find accomodations. We are planning to stay in Bayeux for several days and it sounds like the place you stayed would be terrfic so I'll have to check it out!

How did you end up liking your place in Paris?? Good location?? Reasonable value?? Would you have chosen something else for a longer stay??

Thanks so much for your report; I really enjoyed reading it. We hope to visit London next year....your report made me want to get there sooner rather than later!

Bee2travel- We loved our place in Bayeux. The room was very spacious, we had a king sized bed and the boys each had a twin. There was also a separate dressing room/small sitting room which gave us room for luggage, etc. It was also on one of the main streets in Bayeux which made it easy to walk to dinner or to see the sites.

The hotel in Paris was good, but I don't know if we would have stayed there for more than a night or two. On the plus side was location. It is very convenient to the Eiffel tower and the Invalides and also to the metro and bus lines. There are also lots of cafes, boulangeries, etc right around the corner. Also, the staff was extremely helpful and cordial.
The room was very small, especially for four people. We had a king bed and a day bed which had a trundle. If staying any longer I probably would get two rooms. The cost was very reasonable, the room very clean with nice linens. If you like to have some space, you might consider two rooms but if you are okay with the normal small European hotel room, it was good value and good location(also, it was our first time in Paris so I really don't have anything to compare it to). Hope this helps!

Enjoyed reading your report. Didn't realize that you could end up waiting a bit for a taxi--that's nice to know so I won't be so grumpy if it happens to us! And, that 2 hour return to the airport--yikes! Pizza Tina is good, isn't it? It's our favorite little Paris restaurant--can't wait to eat there next June! You chose a great area to stay in for your visit!
Thanks for posting!

I loved reading your report, as we've traveled the same ground with our teenage boys.

In Bayeux in 2008, my fondest memory is of the wonderful farmer's market. We happened to be there on market day (maybe Saturday?) and it was quite a treat.

Also, if any families are looking for a place to stay in Bayeux, "Clos de Bellefontaine" B&B was great. In a section off the main house is a living room, a bedroom on the next level and a second bedroom with twin beds on the top level. Breakfast was absolutely wonderful.

Thanks for the kind words, it does bring back happy memories to read other's reports. We visited a market in Ste-Mere-Eglise and are still talking about the pluots and nectarines. One of the simple treats of traveling!

Hi Laura,

My wife and I are going to Paris and Bayeux in October and your report has really got us eager to get there!

We are going to be coming from and returning to Amsterdam, so we too need to get from Gare du Nord to Gare St. Lazare. Just to give us an idea of the taxi rates, do you remember how much you were charged?

Also, do you have any other tips/suggestions for those of us going to Bayeux?

Thanks for your great report!

Tom18- My husband thinks it was about 25euros. I have no idea if this is "normal" or not. Those more experienced could probably speak to this. It was a fairly short cab ride to Gare St. Lazare but we waited a long time in the taxi stand line. I think you can reserve a cab ahead of time and not wait if you don't have alot of time between connections. I would recommend this to decrease your stress!

Bayeux was lovely and I truly wish we had more time to spend there. The town is easy to navigate on foot, has lots of good restaurants and patisseries(which close about 6:30pm in the summer), and of course the tapestry and cathedral. We arrived too late to see the tapestry due to our "train ticket issues" in Paris(see above). It looks very easy to get to other towns on the carriageways. We did a tour of the D-Day beaches and our guide was Dale Booth. He is fabulous. He was with Battlebus but don't know if he still is. The countryside is so pretty and the people were gracious and kind. You will have a wonderful time. Again, I wish we had had more time not only for Bayeux but the whole region of Normandy as well.
I found an Eyewitness travel book which gave good overview of the region which was helpful. If I can answer any specific question, I am happy to help. Just feel we didn't do the region justice so hopefully we will return soon!
