On our recent trip, in Germany and Austria I started every conversation in post offices, restaurants, shops, etc. with the sentence "I speak only a little German" in German. 9 times out of 10 the response came in English. In Prague, where I speak no Czech, I began with "Do you speak English?" and luckily for me the answer was usually affirmative.

John, www.tinyurl.com is a great resource. You go to the site, paste in your long address and it will assign you a short one that you can put in your post. Side benefit is that the short address doesn't skew the window size here on the forum.

And if that doesn't work, this has to. I sent an invitation (to myself) to view my pictures to myself and this is the link supplied:

Great report! We don't have kids yet but hopefully in a couple of years we will - your report is inspiring on that end. (Everyone keeps telling us that once we have kids our days of travel are over - but you've certainly shown that they don't have to be.) And I love your pictures - really really super!
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you, john, for sharing your pictures. The photo of your boys watching the fountain by the Louvre pyramid was my favorite.
Your family is beautiful! Enjoy your boys every step along the way as they grow because it really does go by so quickly. (My "baby boy" is now 26 and spending the summer in Cuernavaca, Mexico.)
Best wishes to you and your lovely family -
Linda

Thanks for the comments everyone! And Sally, don't let anyone tell you your traveling days are over once you have kids - your traveling days will be DIFFERENT, not done. There's a downside and an upside to that - for us, and as I suspect for most parents, the upside far outweighs the downside though!
Oh, and I noticed that if you use the last link I posted the slideshow stops after Gouda, for some reason. Just click the Browse All Albums link near the bottom and you'll be able to see the rest of the photos (click on the first photo in each album to start the slideshow).

I just found your trip report while looking for inspiration for my upcoming trip to Paris with my 1-year old son. I don't know if you're still checking these boards, but thank you so much for sharing your stories & photos. I have been a bit nervous about the trip, but find your posts to be reassuring.
Thanks again for the wonderful stories -- it certainly looks like you enjoyed yourselves!
