Trip Report composition tips?
 

I'm trying to write a trip report. I seem to remember that if you write in Word and then cut and paste you get wierd punctuation points. I remember someone mentioned composing in Notepad and then pasting. I've started that but the darned thing seems to keep writing to the right WAY past the margin. What's the best word processing venue for composing a report for posting here. Thanks!

I think the tip was: write your document in Word, if that's what you like. Then save the word doc as a .txt file, then copy/paste. I haven't tried it yet so not sure if that's all.

Travelnut Many thanks. I think I've figured out the word wrap thing in Notepad, but I'm more comfortable in Word. I'll just copy/paste what I've already composed.

Don't forget to break your report into paragraphs. So much easier to read! Thank you in advance.

i write directly on line into fodors....proof read it once and then send....i do it in many small installments on the same thread.......my last asia report was over 80 when printed out...so it will take long ones...

Shouldn't that be the Word to Txt hypothesis?

Another suggestion/request:
If you need to break up your report over a period of days, while you compose it or something, please post the subsequent parts onto the ORIGINAL thread, not on separate threads. That way, all the report and related posts are on one thread for ease of locating and saving.

On a recent "critique" of the multiple threads by Underhill, Keith mentioned that readers might not catch later installments posted over a period of days, once the original "part one" has already gotten many replies (lots of people would not look at a thread again when it went from 20 replies to 21, for example - - and there is no "signal" that you have added fresh new content).

Therefore, perhaps the best approach is to wait until you have written the entire thing, and then post it all at once, regardless of how many segments it needs. Of course, it shouldn't matter if someone posts a comment in between segments two and three - - the key would be to post it all at one sitting, or at least all in one day.
