Trip Report: Carrowkeel Passage tombs - Ireland

I wanted to share this magical visit to the Carrowkeel passage tombs. Please do visit them if you get the chance and are on the west coast of Ireland.

Couldn't get your trip report to come up, but I agree, carrowkeel is really worth a trip. The views to the lakes a re beautiful also. I enjoyed the sign for the "Rest Home for Donkeys"

Carrowkeel was a highlight of our trip - just be sure to close the gates so the sheep don't escape!

(and the rest home for donkeys is real -- there's a Web site where they have pictures of all their furry "pensioners" and take donations.)

I think our system was just experiencing problems when I tried before. You have a wonderful website and an incredible amount of adventures. I think we had a similar experience when we were there. Keep having fun!

Work: When I came home I read up on the donkey programs and apparently there is a system of them throughout Ireland and the UK. Pretty interesting.

I'm glad to hear others have discovered this magical place. We were there in Sept '01. The only other person inside the area was a German on a motorcycle. We didn't climb up to the tombs. Our rental was a BMW and the road was a bit hair-raising. However, we stayed down the hill and across the valley at a b&b which has Ireland's third largest dolman/tomb on its property, so hiked out to see that.

Thanks for the nice comments about my site Bill! I put a fair amount of effort into it and it's good to know its useful. Just finished climbing Kilimajaro & safari so another adventure to be posted soon.
