Trip Report: Austria - salt mine, ice cave, Habsburgs' Summer Palace

I went on a month-long backpacking trip with friends and I finally got around to writing about it. I wanted to share with you my trip report to Salzburg and Vienna.

I share my itinerary, photos, and recommendations for Austria:

Thanks for reading!

Thank-you for sharing! We're headed to Austria this summer. Which city did you prefer between Vienna and Salzburg?

You're welcome, delabeb! I think I preferred Salzburg because it was more charming. I like walkable, cozy cities that are rich in history. Vienna is great for art and the palaces are grand but there's something about those charming winding streets.

Enjoy Austria!

Thank you so much for your post!
I had no idea that the salt mine tours had slides! It looks like it would be a very fun experience!

Many thanks,

Serica

Serica & PegS - you're welcome! Thanks for posting comments!

I remember there being at least 2 different salt mine tours and of course I picked the one with slides. I was looking forward to that the most.

Thanks for bringing back memories after reading your Brugges, Amsterdam, Cape Town and Sabi Sands posts. Of all of your amazing trips, do you have a couple favorites?

Hi deladeb, what a great question! There are so many different places... I easily have favorite memories of pretty much everyone I've traveled. I think I like certain ones for the memories and some for the actual sights or culture. In no particular order, some favorites:

- Krakow, Poland: the magic of Free Hug Day, rich history
- Sabi Sands, South Africa: honeymoon and seeing animals up close
- Rome, Italy: Borghese Gallery, amazing sites, got goosebumps standing in the Colosseum just thinking of the horrors that took place there
- Thailand (Bangkok and Phuket): the food, markets, navigating the city, dining on the beaches on Phuket
- Granada, Spain: the Alhambra, met an awesome fellow traveler there
- Barcelona, Spain: the Gaudi sites, easily walkable. My first solo international trip makes it memorable in itself.
- Tokyo, Japan: old and modern neighborhoods, never seen anything like it
- Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam: the food, crossing the street, Cu Chi Tunnels

Wow, now I really want to travel again! Do you have any?
