milliebz,
You are very welcome! I hope that you can stay there. Would you believe I've only been home two days and I'm already scheming about how and when to go back? It was truly a delightful place in every way! You will love Chania!

We encountered some of that "attitude" at Esperas too and thought it was because none of the staff was Greek, but rather E.European or European. The
Greeks are so hospitable and we never found an attitude in the other places we visited. Maybe it is also beacause Santorini is so crowded.

butter924,
There is no view from rooms at Palazzo di Pietro. It is inside a tiny alley just behind the Metropolitan church. However, there's a very pretty if small rooftop garden planted lovingly with flowers and herbs of all kinds by Christina and her dad. There are a couple of chaise lounges up there, so some afternoons we'd hang out with our books and some local wine. It was a great way to end the day!

We had a wonderful stay at Esperas in July in a studio room. Great views. It should be interesting to note that they were in the process of ordering more towels and on our last day, there were brand new towels in the room with their new logo. We also had a huge problem with the car rental the esperas had arranged. As anyone who has stayed in Oia knows, the car park is not that close to the hotel. So after signing the papers and getting the keys we hike to the car to find that the gas tank is empty. Hike back to Esperas and implore Yvonee to help. They bring a different car, this time with 1/8 a tank of gas. The first thing we did was fill up the tank on the way to Perivolas beach. We were able to negotiate the rate since we left them with 3/4 tank of gas after the second day. They said it is policy in Greece not to give you gas with the car, just enough to get you to the nearest gas station. That is ludicrous. Also, Esperas will discount the room 10% if you settle the bill in Euros, which we did. I would not have wanted to pay double at Perivolas, and our bed at Esperas was very comfortable. The pool area is also quite nice and of course it has the wonderful sunset views that most of the places have.

We did have a very uncomfortable bed at Esperas (I think room 114). The bed felt like sinking in the middle. The transfers we had were both late and the hotel being far from the cab parking, being exposed under the hot sun was very uncomfortable. Yvonne is knowledgeable but not the other host, Amy. We're sorry we listened to her advice not to go to Katrina's (she said she was treated poorly quite a few times and if she was treated poorly knowing she was from Esperas, she thought we'll get worse treatment).

We did get our car filled with gas from the car rental that Esperas arranged for us( Gem Car Rentals) they just wanted to nail us for tiny scratches that were on the door that we did not do. I agree Yvonne is both knowledgable and nice, it was Amy who had a bit of an attitude when we asked her to make a couple of changes to our dinner reservations. The towels were new but they were stingy with them even aftr leaving the dirty ones on the bathroom floor as requested. We still never got the same number of towels back. The beach towels never appeared again after the first day. The towels are not so lush that they should be hoarding them like that.

Cheryl - what a huge shame you were advised not to go to Katina's!!! I cannot believe that. I stay at Esperas once a year and absolutely love it. But Katina's is a real highlight as we love the walk down the steps, then we go for a swim (around the corner, jumping off the rock where the church is) and then we settle down for a late lunch at Katina's. The funny thing is, it's a family run restaurant and very basic - service is not extraordinary. I suspect that Amy probably thought you were after something flash. I first visited those restaurants in 1992, when I was a poor student. I still find it expensive but so worth it for the peace i get just sitting there, exhausted from a day's swimming, munching on basic but yummy Greek fare. I do hope that you find yourself in Santorini again so that you can pay a visit to Katina's!!
