Trip report and pictures from Venice

Hi

My wife and I went to Milan and Venice in June 2003. I have posted a trip report from Venice (with some pictures) on my homepage www.gardkarlsen.com. I'm not sure that everyone will agree with my conclusion after the trip but hey, we all have our dream destinations :-) Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or comments :-)

Gard, I really liked your trip report....great pictures! If you go to Italy again definitely go to Rome (so much better than Venice), it will leave you speechless.

Hi gard,

Thanks for a very nice trip report.

Your pictures are great. What camera did you use?

I looked up your restaurant. There seem to be two Antica Besseta. Was yours up near the train station on the canal, or in the middle of San Polo?

gard Jul 21st, 2003 05:52 AM

Hi

I used my Canon Powershot S30. The picture was shot in full quality and they have been rescaled to 800*600 for the web.

I find it a bit hard to believe that there are two Antica Besseta's. The one we went to was located about 5-10 minute walk from the train station..and this basically takes you to the middle of San Polo :-)

Hi gard,

Thanks for the response.

It turns out that there are Four Antica Besseta!
One is on Riva de Biasio on the Grand Canal across from the train station.

Another is on Calle de San Zusto, about 2 blocks in from the canal off Riva de Basio.

The third is on Calle dell Savia, which is just off San Zusto.

The fourth is just off the Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio.

They are all 5 -10 min from the train station.

You wouldn't have a phone number would you?

Hi gard,

I think I found it.

Would you mind going to http://www.yeaah.com/besseta/uk/index-gb.htm?

Does this look right?

Hi Gard,

I really enjoyed your trip report and pictures? Do you do web pages professionally?

I would love to know how you got the text to go around the photos? Did you have to set up columns?

Thanks for any info.

By the way, you'll love the food in Rome and the Amalfi Coast.

Hi ira

Yes, the Antica Besseta you have posted a link to is the correct one. I'm sitting with their business card in front of me :-)

Hi TamT

Thanks for the kind words about the page :-) The homepage is just a hobby that I have and we like to share our trip experience with others :-) The pages are made by using Microsoft Frontpage and it is quite easy to make..the pictures are just placed by using align right or align left.

Thanks Gard! I was just in N & Central Italy for my HOneymoon. I just read your Venice post and have to agree. We enjoyed it for our 2 days/2 nights but probably won't go back. But definitely worth the visit! Our favorite area was Tuscany, S of FLorence. We rented a car and hit the hill towns, stayed 4 nights in one farmhouse S of Siena. I highly recommend this! Thanks again, you travel a lot, I'm jealous!

The report on Venice was excellant. However if you had gone in May or Oct. you would have found better more friedly Venice. Not as hot and whilestill crowded much more tolerable. If a person eats in the touristy area between the Rialto bridge,SanMarco and Accademia you will find a lot of places that are not to good.We found that by walking into the other neighborhoods we found great small family run places frequented by natives.

Thanks for the response, gard.

It became a sort of a treasure hunt.

Gard,

Thank you for the great report and photos. We hope to make our first trip to Venice next May! I also enjoyed the photos of your hometown. It looks lovely.

Hi

I also read that you could get a "real italian" meal if you just stayed away from the Rialto, San Marco etc areas so we tried walking a bit away from the crowds. But as I said in my trip report it was only at Antica Besseta we found a great meal. I guess I have to continue making my own risotto :-)

thanks for the report! It was very informative and entertaining to read. I'm heading to Venice in just a month and will take some of your restaurant recommendations with me. Thanks again!

Thanks gard,

That was a very informative report. I plan to refer to it in my future visit to Venice.

By the way, you're a lucky dog being able to travel with such a lovely wife!
