I have participated in quite a few threads since I first posted this and every once in a while, someone would write, "Liam, how's your wife?" I have rarely responded directly until today and thought I should take a minute to post an update to all of you (also, selfishly, I don't want to have to repeat myself each time someone asks for an update!).

Our "trip of a lifetime" is currently on hold. My wife's cancer treatments did not go as well as we'd have liked, but there is good news. She tried an experimental drug and showed some responsiveness to it, so she is slated for a stem cell transplant sometime in March (six months ago I never thought I'd be on the cruddy end that political debate!!!). I am taking some family leave time to be with her when she will be in the hospital. Needless to say, the success rate is not as high as either or us would like. Even the transplant is successful I do not think that we will be doing much travelling in 2002 (we have a trip to the Cayman Islands booked for May/June and may or may not be able to make it).

I want to thank everyone who offered suggestions and kind words. I enjoyed reading every post and I think it was great to see a post that stayed positive. As I said, our trip is merely "on hold" - when we're ready for travel again I will re-post.

Take care,
Liam

Dear Liam,
How great to hear from you! I have just started reading these forums as I am planning a trip myself, and read eagerly all the advice and kind words. As you stated, it was so nice to see all positive remarks. I am praying and hoping for a positive response for your wife with the new treatments. You, as well as she, need something exciting to look forward to in the future. All the best to all of your family. Linda

Liam,I have thought of you and your family often..hoping that all was going well.I am sorry things were not as successful as you had hoped, but medicine these days is so advanced, perhaps this will be the treatment that will turn things around.Whatever you are doing, whatver is happening- please know that there are people out there that think of you and wish nothing but good things for you and your wife and your children.
Candice
