"Oct 13,14,15 Barr/Obenai - Alsace Wine Route
Oct 16 & 17 Reims - The Champagne Route"
Well the Alsace Wine road exists and is clearly marked. I would do it by bike (there is a bike path) or bus due to the danger of getting done for drunk-driving by the police. Obernai is a good choice as do drop in on Bruno Sorg or at least try some of his wines in town. The town is still shaped as a walled town with concentric rings of houses with "the forum" almost still visible in the centre so the coach tours run from about 10 to 4 so you may prefer to visit early or late.
I don't know about "the Champagne route", could you give me the link? Reims has a lovely ancient centre and a bunch of grand marque houses you can visit. I think it is easier to taste your way down the Avenue du Champagne in Epernay. Tourist Info in both places are very helpful but the Epernay is less rushed and under less demand.
