Trip Insurance

I was looking into trip insurance for our 5 week trip around Europe. I will have no medical insurance because I am quiting my job befor leaving so that is mainly what I am concerned about. I found very reasonably priced insurance through worldnomads.com. Has anyone used this company and if so what was your experience?

Hi t,

>I will have no medical insurance because I am quiting my job befor leaving ...

You are permitted to keep your current medical insurance for one year.

Ask your "Human Resources" dept about COBRA.

This doesn't mean that your plan will cover you in Europe.

Have you looked at www.insuremytrip.com?

Trpchick26,

I just signed up with Travel Guard for my Italy trip in August. Take a look at them.

I like Travel Guard especially for their customer service. They reply to emails within 24 hours, very thorough too.

COBRA entitles one to buy (not just receive) group health insurance of your former employer for 18 months, not one year. Everyone doesn't get it, either, small businesses are exempt. It can be a good deal if you need insurance, though, as group premiums may be lower than you could get on your own.

Of course that would be moot if your current plan doesn't cover trips abroad anyway. Dropping insurance coverage in the US for any time is not a good idea for pre-existing conditions reasons (which may affect future coverage).

For travel medical coverage, go to insuremytrip.com; excellent comparisons charts for various types and costs of coverage.

I can get COBRA but it is pretty expensive, about $190 just for medical coverage.

$190/month for health insurance in the U.S. isn't bad, but you'd need to carefully check out benefits for travel outside the country.

A great insurance choice specifically for travel abroad may be found at
www.acrtours.com

We'll be using this for our group to the World Cup in Germany.

YOu would be well advised to do the COBRA--"seems" expensive. Try to get something on your own. doesn't really have a lot to do with your trip.
