Trip advice-10 nights Switzerland
 

Hello,We will be in Switzerland for 10 nights in mid May, landing and departing from Geneva. We come from NYC and want no cities, just tiny picturesgue mountain villages. Can you please advise me on quaint hotels ($100or less)in small, mountain, non touristy villages near these areas -- 1.Zermatt 2.Locarno 3.St. Moritz 4.some place between St. Moritz and Geneva 5. Lake Geneva area? We will be driving. We have already visited Lucerne, Gstaad and Jungfrau. Thank you very much. Joan

try the du Lac in Locarno. Larger, clean rooms, many with balcony and lake view, right on pedestrian zone so quite quiet. Very convenient to everything--including two minute walk from train station. Breakfast buffet is nice, staff are friendly--though not gushing. <BR><BR>The only problem: cost will be between 160-210 chf for double, which, at the current exchange rate is well beyond $100

Hi, Joan, you are so lucky -- mid-May in Switzerland sounds wonderful!<BR><BR>I can recommend a couple of two-star hotels, but even those may require a three-night stay in order to bring the cost down to $100 a night. They are the Auberge de Rivaz in the Lavaux vineyards between Lausanne and Vevey, and the Albergo Panorama in Gerra-Gambarogno (east side of Lago Maggiore). The Panorama's site is hotel-panorama.ch.<BR><BR>These two hotels are both lakeside rather than mountain. Actually, if you go into the hills, you might be able to find places closer to your desired price. <BR><BR>Because you will be driving, you might want to visit the bnb.ch Swiss bed and breakfast website. Thanks so much. I'll check these out. What I really want even more than hotels are small villages, especially driving back from St. Moritz to Geneva. Then it would be easier to find b and b's and hotels.

My family usually stays in our ancestral village of Boltigen, in a valley above Spiez. It is a very small village, but there are decent accomodations and it is convenient to Bern and the Bernese Oberland. It is so small, however, that I would not go there without a reservation. Room rates are relatively low.

I'd rethink staying in St. Moritz. Not only is the budget a bit more of a problem there, but it really doesn't line up with any of the things you say you're looking for -- particularly &quot;quaint&quot; and &quot;non-touristy&quot;.<BR>I'm heading to Poschiavo, among other places this summer, south of St. Moritz. Haven't been yet, but it sure sounds like what you are looking for.
