Trieste to Zadar or Trogir or Split???

Hi there!
Flying to Trieste on the 19thAug.
Need to fill a couple days til 21st when going to Split for a night.
Do you think i should go straight from Trieste to Zadar and stay around there?
Or possibly even travelling to Trogir and staying there? Are there buses from Trieste to Trogir?(Couldnt find any?)
Don't know is it woth stopping off anywhere further north in Istria as travelling by bus(or Ferry if suited?).
I know some of you have suggested Pula for a night but don't know if it works.
Also Plitvice Lakes are out of the question too I think :(
Maybe two nights in Split?and one in Zadar?Or Trogir?
We are young 22yr olds...But are naive and need your expert opinions and advice.
Thanks guys if anyone could help or suggest something.

I suggest you visit the western coast of Istria for a couple of days. There are some wonderful and very picturesque little towns there. Pick one - Poran, Porec, or Rovinj. There's plenty of public transportation available, but you should check beforehand.

For what its worth, Trogir is a short (and inexpensive) 20 minutes bus ride from Split so you may manage to spend some time in both if you wanted to. Theres plenty to do and see in Split, but I really enjoyed my time in the smaller town of Trogir. Can't speak about the night-life in Trogir as I wasn't there long enough (unfortunately) to find out, but I did find a cool wine bar in the interesting maze of narrow cobblestone side streets.
