Trieste for 4 hours

Will disembark from cruise ship in Trieste and want to see the city for a few hours but will have luggage needing to be checked. The train station seems to be too far to walk. Has anybody had experience doing this?

We thought of hiring a taxi to the train station and then have it take us around the city. How does this sound?

Thanks

David

I have not done a cruise, so I cannot offer advise on getting from terminal to train station.

From memory, the train station is fairly close to city center and do not think you will need a taxi to walk around city center where *most* of the landmarks are located. If you are considering going to Castello Miramare, then a taxi might be beneficial. But you only have 4 hours and I, personally, would not plan for Miramare in such a short time period.

Agree that the train station is not far from the city centre. When I visited I took the guided walking tour from the tourist office and found it excellent. Then it ran once daily in the morning but check the current situation.

if you want to leave Trieste by public transport 4 hrs after arrival, you will have to move to the railway/bus station anyway.

I'm not sure where your fat boat will be docking, but the main cruise liner dock point is about 500 metres from the station and the station is less than 1 km from the historic centre. If these distances are too much to walk then I guess the only option is to use a taxi.

I'd start by checking with your cruise ship people and finding out where it docks.
