Trieste and surroundings

I've booked some cheap flights to Trieste, the last time I was there I was a child, and I had the best pizza in the world there! So, I've decided to go back, and have an Italian winter experience for a few nights.

The question is: Where would you advise staying? Are there nearby towns where I could base myself?

I've looked on tripadvisor, and there are so few reviews that it is very inconclusive.

Thanking you in anticipation!

I just checked Google for you and believe you will find lots of good information. Website is www.google.com.

I have friends that live in Triese but have never stayed at hotel.

Trieste is a beautiful city. It does get very strong winds sometimes but believe you will really enjoy your trip.

I recently day-tripped to Trieste ("Tree-este") and remember mainly a bunch of industrial detritus surrounding it, though there were some beach resorts not too far away. Trieste anyway is a neat town that's very unique - was or has been Austrian on and off for eons. The historic town is just being renewed - even in its derelict state it's neat. Active port lends it a certain flare. Not a great town as Italian towns go but interesting. You could day trip to Venice, a few hours on the train.

I've every intention of going to Venice for the day, I might even stay the night, but many hotels are closed at that time of year, I haven't been to Venice for years... anway I digress.

None of the hotels in Trieste grab me in any great way - are there towns nearby with fabulous resorts (I'm thinking that there aren't). Back to Trieste - if you had to choose an hotel - there are 3 that look more "international" ( I can't remember their full names) than the others, are they any good?

Hi mk,

I believe that someone(s) posted reports on Trieste a while back.

Try searching this forum.

Only one opinion on the grand, which conflicts with those on tripadvisor.

I'm looking for general advice. I'm flying into Trieste, and have four nights to kill - what would you recommend?

Grado, The Goriska Brda region of Slovenia and Ljubljana!
Cheers,

Or you could do Trieste, Piran and Rovinj (which I think we will be visiting later this month). Here is a website for Rovinj (Croatia) http://www.tzgrovinj.com/eng/home.asp

cheers,
Jan
