Trier, Germany to Paris
We have planned 3 nights in Trier. A Monday-Wed. We must be back to Paris by Saturday for our flight Sunday am. Question: Would staying in Reims for two nights be a good choice? A day trip to Verdun? Thanks!

verdun ranks high on this site with many people, but i find it way over rated and in fact boring....that's one mans opinion

Dear Tracy:
Since no one else replied, I will try to help. Trier is lovely, as is the Moselle area nearby. I have never been to Verdun, but have read it is a good spot to see WWI battle sites. Perhaps you can do this on your way to Reims. About 10 years ago we stayed in Epernay(near Reims). It was very nice. Saw vineyards, drank wine, toured Champagne cellars at Moet Chandon. We also visited Reims to see the catherdral. There is also a small US WWI cemetary near Epernay - the Belleau Wood in the Marne Valley. It was also the site of a major WWI battle. Very moving and peaceful. I would stay in this area again. I hope this helps. |
Trier is a lovely spot to visit. Verdun is OK - unless you are a military buff. Why don't you try Luxumburg instead? There is a lovely castle at Vianden and Lux city is not too far away by train. The American Cemetary near there is where Patton is burried.
