Trestavere area, Rome ?

Hello everyone,

We booked an apartment located in the Trestavere area for the end of March. I am interested in a personal opinion about this area. Is it safe ? How far is it from the historical center ? We are going to be in Rome for three days.

Any info is greatly appreciated. This is our first time in Italy.

Thanks,

There are a number of recent threads about this. Type "Trastevere" in the search box. (Note correct spelling for greater success.)

It is a safe neighborhood, full of good restaurants and interesting shops as well as some spectacular churches. From the church of San Crisogno on Viale Trastevere, it's about a 15-20 minute walk up the Via Arenula to Largo Argentina, and another five minute walk from there to the Pantheon or Piazza Navona. You could take the number 8 tram on the same route and it will be five minutes or less to reach Largo Argentina.

Thank you both for your replies and sorry for the spelling, I was probably rushing to post the message.

As suggested I did a search under "trastevere" and there is plenty of info about the area.

Thanks, once again!

Glad it worked for you. I make enough typing errors that I don't like to point out those made by other posters. But I DID want you to have a successful search.

Trastevere has more of a small-town feel than other parts of Rome. If you stay there, you may have more of the feeling of going "home" at the end of the day. Have a great trip.

We also stayed in Trastevere for 3 days.We just loved it there! There were plentny of small restaurants as well as a great place just for walking. It was nice to be out of the main tourist areas. We always go off season-usually May or September so it was pretty quiet.
I am interested how your apt. turns out. We will be going this Sept and would rather do an apt. rather than a pension. Please let know your thoughts when you get back..

I've booked the Luce Split Level in Trastevere through Real Rome for the first week in Oct. I was impressed with Paula's experience there (she posted on 10/15/03) and with the promptness of the responses from Tim Pearson. I had really wanted to be a little closer to Piazza Navona area, but I do love Trastevere and I am hoping I will get a little feel for being "one of the locals" in this very lovely neighborhood.
