Trentalia Train Reservations

Has anyone had difficulty getting train reservations while travelling in Italy with two or three days advance notice?

Hi A,

Depends on when you are traveling. During high season and holidays, it can be difficult to get the train you want.

Is mid September considered high season?

Mid September is still high season, but I would think that if you buy your tickets two to three days in advance, you could get the train you want. Also, many routes used by tourists have trains on an almost hourly basis.

Mid-September is after the peak holiday season in Italy. Long-distance trains will be busiest around weekends: Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons and evenings are the busiest periods in most countries.

Never had a problem in taking many Eurostar trains that require reservations - booking day before. two trains an hour on many runs - the worst could be that you'd have to go first class. Only Eurostar Italia trains require reservations - InterCity (IC) optional but advised - regional trains can't even make them i believe.
