Trenitalia Venice to Naples CONFUSED!
Hello master mind rail travelers,
My biggest apprehension about our whole trip is the rail travel. No matter how much I read, it all confuses me! (I don't even use the rail system in the US)
So, this is what I need to accomplish (which I don't believe I can do until Thurs),
I would like to book 3 (2 adults, 1 child) on a night train from Venice to Naples on 12 June, departing 2330 (the 2030 didn't offer the same options). I have figured out how to search for the dates/schedules. Where I get stuck is when it offers different types of tickets. I have priced all mine out at "Familia" rates, 3 bed compartment. The rate I priced out was one w/out any changes, starting at 49 eur per person (obviously this changes after selecting the 3 bed compartment). Can I choose the familia rate for this journey? Since we are all girls, I selected woman. I'm not sure why it gives a drop down box with "low middle high" options.
Sorry, I know some of this seems so simple to you experts, but I am paranoid to book the wrong ticket tomorrow just to find out we have trouble, at night, trying to leave Venice.
As always, my greatest appreciation for all your assistance and taking the time to help me overcome my anxiety of rail travel in Europe!

Familia rates only apply if the child is under age 12. Trenitalia hasn't loaded summer schedules yet (winter schedules only go through June 11) so I'm wondering what site you are using to price. I get a price of 207.50€ for 2 adults and 1 child in a 3 bed compartment. The low middle high options are the bunks which fold down from the wall.
Scroll down for pictures of the night trains bunks.

Are you sure you want to do this as an overnight? You can do this during the day (morning or afternoon) in just under 6 hrs, with one leisurely change in Rome.
The overnight train that leaves right before midnight takes 10hrs and you get in at 10am.
You get a good but short night sleep in Venice and depart at 6:27am and get into Naples at 11:30, or leave 8:27 arriving at 2:10pm.
I don't have experience on overnight trains, so I'm not recommending for or against you plan, just pointing out options.

Well we reserved a house already, arriving on the 13th. I can probably get that changed though if we fly. We didn't really want to use the day time to travel the distance. Unfortunately, it was cheaper flights out of Rome to Madrid-which has us backing tracking on this trip. (Venice to AC to Rome). We are ok with that, as long as we get from place to place! Taking the night train gave us some extra adventure time around Venice, which made us happy. If the 3 of us can travel night train for 207eur, it's still cheaper than plane tickets and extra night at the house. However, I will look at airfare and see. We would still get the extra time in Venice, plus extra time in the a.m. in the AC. Just when I thought I was starting to get this all figured out! haha P.S, my daughter will be 12 yrs old during these travels.

I must have missed the 45eur on Easyjet, it's 67eur now ,but think I'll keep my eye out!
Thank you for the picture link! This helps a lot! If we do end up on the train, if we boo, for 3 people, do we share that with others?
Thanks to all!

I've taken that train before, but in bog standard carriages, ie not berthed cabins. Journey was fine,um, but.. there're people selling all kinds of things at all hours of the night (I'm not talking sandwiches..) so if your 12 year old needs the bathroom in the night go with her! Not to worry you, just a heads up, everyone was very (very) friendly the entire journey. And watch your bags in the train station and the piazza outside it when you get to Naples, but be sure to visit Castel Sant'Elmo up in Vomero if you're staying there for a bit; amazing view of the city and Vesuvius.
