TRENITALIA TICKETS FOR 1 EURO ON AUGUST 15

Trenitalia has announced a snap promotion for travel on August 15 ONLY:

1) All tickets for travel on all Regionale (R), Interregionale (IR) and Diretto (D) train will cost ONE EURO, regardless of distance travelled, in either first or second class.

2) All tickets for travel on all Espresso (EXP), Intercity Night (ICN), Intercity (IC), Intercity Plus (ICPlus), Eurocity in domestic service (EC) and Eurostar Italia (ES) will cost TEN EUROS, regardless of distances travelled, in either first or second class.

3) Children under 12 and seniors over 65 will travel for ONE EURO on ALL of the above trains.

4) Exclusions: sleeping accommodations including couchettes, Cisalpino and Artesia trains.

5) Ticket sales: beginning today though and including August 15, at any train station, automated ticket machine, authorized travel agency, national call center in Italy, and internet sales.

6) Conditions: tickets for reserved seats on EXP, IC, ICN, ICPlus and ES trains are non-changeable and non-refundable. Tickets for R, IR and D trains (which are non-reservable) are also non-refundable.

7) VALID FOR TRAVEL ON AUGUST 15 ONLY.

Thanks for posting. Too bad I can't be in Italy to take advantage of it

August 15th is Ferraugsto, right?

I assume the IC and ES trains will sell out today - but it's the regional trains that have no reservations, i wonder if they will sell an unlimited number of tickets and have an ensuing mob scene as folks clamor on board! Or maybe nearly no one travels on this 'holy' day.

About the only Italians travelling on Ferragosto (August 15) are those visiting relatives nearby, or those getting out of town towards beach, mountain and lake resorts.!
