Thank you! Thank you! I just booked two-for-one tickets for our party of ten for our trip from Rome to Chiusi in April.

I feel as though I've completed a rite of passage, having read about the difficulty of booking on the website. It was a tricky process but not impossible.

GAC, there didn't seem to be a place on the site to make seat reservations, and there are no seat numbers on the confirmation that was emailed to me. A couple of questions: Do we need (or is it even possible) to make seat reservations in advance and on-line for this route on a Saturday morning? We're traveling on 30 April and I believe 1 May is a holiday in Italy, so the trains may be crowded.

Betsy: if you're travelling on a "Diretto" (D) train, you CANNOT make seat reservations, but the train originates in Rome, so I would not worry about finding seats, as long as you promptly board the train soon after it pulls onto the departure track.

If you're travelling on an "Intercity" (IC) train, you can make seat reservations for an additional fee of 3 Euros per seat, and should indeed do so if the train originates south of Rome (such as in Naples).

Eurostar Italia (ES) trains do NOT stop in Chiusi, so you can exclude them from your calculus.

GAC, you are amazing! How do I find out where the train originates? It's number 2308, apparently a regionale.

GAC, I am waiting patiently for my September trip tp Italy and don't have train trips until early October. I just wanted to thank you for your constant updates regarding Trenitalia. You've helped a lot of people on the board already.

I'm hoping there is one those 29 or 39 euro specials during that time, but guess I'll have to wait until early August to find out.

Betsy: Regionale train 2308 (formerly a "diretto", but no real difference) originates at Roma Termini Station. No seat reservations possible on this or any other Regionale, Interregionale or Diretto trains. Don't worry, just be amongst the first to board the train when the doors are opened. It likely will have at least 10 railcars, and I doubt that 600 passengers will all be boarding at Termini Station!!!

how far ahead of the scheduled departure should you get a seat ...in other words when will the train possiblely pull in? how are the seats from salerno to rome termini on a weekday late morning?
