Trenitalia question
 

I am looking at the Trenitalia site. If it says "Reservations must be made in Italy" - [R}, does that mean that I can but my ticket online, but must still get the seat reservation in Italy? I thought I could get the seat reservation and all online. Thank you.

I was on their website yesterday and saw that also. I thought it meant for regional trains, you must make the reservation in Italy. Does anyone know?

What is your itinerary and for what type of train? I see Trenitalia has updated their website, but when I put in a sample route, I didn't get that message.

I have tried to go from Rome To Florence, April 28 and return May 1 from Florence to Rome and cannot seem to work with system. Since May 1 is a National Holiday (as I am told), I was hoping to book online and lock in two sets for both segments. Anuyone else have any luck?

I'm starting to make some progress. I'm registered;however, when I try to purchase 2 tickets from Rome to Florence, the details say this reservation needs to be made in Italy. I was looking at Eurostar trains in the 9-10AM timeframe. Thanks

The requirement for buying seat reservation on ES* and AV trains only in Italy is new to me.

I went through the booking procedures for the 09:00 and the 09:30 AV and the 10:44 IC to Florence, up to the point of submitting a CC, and found no requirement to reserve in Italy.

I suggest forgetting about the details and just buying the tickets. Both ES* and AV are reserved seat only. You can buy the IC with or w/o reserved seats.

I'd like to hop onto this discussion, although I'll say at the onset I do not have any clue at this point how to purchase on the Trenitalia web site.

Background: I have been buying on that web site for seven years - sometimes it works really well, and other times I want to scream because my CCs are denied, but I perserve and always get my train tickets.

I am now within 30 days of leaving for my trip and need train tickets from Rome to Naples (Apr. 30th). The new (and improved?) web site is no better than the old version IMO. I went a little further today and read about BankPass Web, which supposedly is a new tool to enable buyers to make a purchase.

From what I understand, the list of banks that have agreed to this initiative are all Italian banks. I read and re-read the list, and there isn't a BOA, Citibank, Chase, etc. listed.

The instructions are to join BankPass to purchase online, set up an account, and you will receive a virtual account number (disposable) in your "wallet" to purchase tickets online. EXCEPT if your bank is a non-Italian bank.

I'm giving up and will buy all our tickets in Italy without the ability to get a promotional discount.

I will be buying tickets for May- e-mail receipts.

I was looking to buy tickets for April 28 and May 1 with email receipts. In the detail section, it says reserve only in Italy. Are you saying to ignore this and try and complete the transaction? Is the savings worth the hassle of this site. I am always looking to save money, dollar vs. euro, when I can and also lock in my travel beforehand, so as not to arrive in Rome and find out that I can't get seats on a train when I land. My two concerns are landing April 28 at FCO and then training into Rome, that I leave enough time to get into Rome to make the train The May 1 trip will be from Florence back to Rome.
