Trenitalia Pass Reservations
I think I've made a mistake. I know this has probably been asked and answered, but after hours of websearch I'm at the end of my tether.
We're travelling Rome to Florence to Venice to Rome. I bought a 3-day Trenitalia pass, which should work nicely for the whole trip. Should. Eurostar Italy now requires reservations, but I can't seem to get to any reservation section that will recognize the pass on the Trenitalia site. RailEurope where I bought the pass will upgrade and reserve, but the fee is hefty and they don't offer all the departures ES and Trenitalia do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. How do I do use the pass and make the upgrades and the reservations?! |
you can go directly to the train station booth and tell the agent when and where you're traveling and show them your pass. They will tell you how much it costs to reserve and will give you a ticket that shows your seat assignment. You can do this the day you travel or several days ahead..

The reason you can't find a reservation section on trenitalia.com is that there isn't one. When you book a ticket on the site for a train which requires a reservation, the reservation is included. No online reservation service is offered for passholders.
Do what sandi says. The reservation fee will be very reasonable. To save time, go to the station in the evening when the lines at the window will be the shortest. |
FYI..I found the costs to be 10-15euro per ticket.

Sandi & Tim -- thank you so much. Took a break and am calmer now. Each piece of advice was just what I needed. My wife will be nervous about not having reservations in hand when we leave the U.S., but from what I've read, there should be plenty of room, especially in first class. (It's all part of a 30th anniversary celebration. Hence 1st class.) I assume I can work with the ticket agent to validate the pass and get the reservations for all three segments at the same time. Thanks again. Very helpful.

graymouse - It's good to know that your blood pressure has gone down <g>. Yes, a ticket agent can make all your reservations for you at the same time. For your wife's peace of mind you could do that as soon as you arrive in Rome. And an agent will validate your pass the first day you use it.
Happy anniversary! |
Hi G,
You can have your pass validated and get all of your seat reservations at the train station at FCO when you take the Leonardo da Vinci express to Rome TE. Take a printout of the trains you want to take. You can get the info at www.trenitalia.com Have a nice visit. ((I)) |
Agree with Ira to have a printout of the train times. I wanted to take a train to Rome the following day at noon and it was full so using my printout, I could quickly decide my next choice. They do not always have one available to the ticket window.
