Trenitalia Fares

Hi -

I would like to pre-purchase train tickets from the Trenitalia website, but am having some difficulty understanding the options.

When I select Rome to Florence, and then select my desired travel time, there is a drop-down to select Fare. The default is "Intera" and the 2nd class ES ticket price is 29.44 euro. However, if I select "In Eurostar a 29 euro" for Fare, then the 2nd class price is 29.00 euro (not a major difference, I know).

There are many other Fare options, some of which I can tell I probably do not qualify for since they request additional info (like card/member #). So, my question is which Fare do I select?

Thanks for any help in advance! I don't want to purchase the wrong "Fare"!

Hi Duke,

If you are traveling without children, just buy the full fare (intera).

Ok, I think I found the answer to my own question!

Not sure about all the other Fare options, but if you go to the Promotions tab, there is a ES Summer promotion going on for 29 euros.

DO NOT DO NOT select the Eurostar a 29 Euro promotional fare if the standard fare is 29.44 Euros!!!!!!!!!!

A savings of 44 cents does not offset the significant restrictions which the Promotional Fares carry (such as modifying departure times).

Now, if you could travel first class rather than second class for the same 29 Euros promotional fare, you would indeed be saving a few Euros, but first class is certainly not necessary for such a short trip (Rome to Florence in 95 minutes).

READ THE RESTRICTIVE RULES FOR PROMOTIONAL FARES BEFORE PURCHASING THEM.

GAC - Thanks for the warning! Based on that and Ira's info, we'll go ahead with the Intera fare then.

Thanks!
