Trenitalia confusion - experts please answer quesion

I have no experience with purchasing Trenitalia train tickets so...thanks, in advance, for your help.

I want to travel from Rome to Naples on 18 September in the morning. I'm looking at the 9:25am AV train. If I don't make that connection (having come from FCO), I'll want to make the 10:25 connection. Out to the right where the column is for purchasing tickets, the "buy" option says "no" on the 9:25 train but has a grocery cart by the 10:25 train. Does this mean the 9:25 is sold out? Thanks bunches!

I entered some dates both before and after September 18. The "No" designation sometimes appeared and sometimes didn't--and it wasn't always for the same type of train. So my guess is that the 09:25 AV train is sold out.

TimS - thanks for the reply. "Sold Out" was my guess, too, but without any experience, I'm afraid I'm jumping to conclusions. Anyone able to chime in here?

Hi DF,

The AV is a new train, so there is not much experience with it.

I note that some days it is not even listed.

You only save 15 min.

Why not take the 09:45 ES*?

What time is your plane scheuled to land?

Good point, Ira...
I should include the 9:45 as an option. Our plane is scheduled to arrive at 7:15am. Originally, we planned to carry - on, but now will need to allow time for our toothpaste to arrive in baggage claim. I'm trying to learn about the Trenitalia website. Would you just buy tickets at the Leonardo Express ticket window for the Rome-Naples portion and hope there are seats available or purchase ahead? Thanks!

Hi mom,

We had a worst case scenario on our last flight into Rome - we got to Rome TE about 3:30 hr after scheduled landing.

Biggest delay was waiting for our luggage.

You should make the 10:45 ES*.

Since there are no discount fares for the ES* on this route, there is no need to purchase tickets in advance.

You could do so, however, and if you get to Rome TE too early there is a pleasant self-serve cafe at the station where you could have a cuppa and a cornetto while waiting for the train.

Thanks for helping me clarify my arrival to this beautiful part of the world! Ira, isn't your fall folliage trip to the northeast right around the corner - if memory serves me correctly?

dfm,

Please tell me toothpaste/shampoo isn't the ONLY reason you are checking bags.

It's available for purchase throughout Italy - including the main train stations.

bardo1 - I was condensing & being facetious, toothpaste was just the beginnning of my personal maintenance list...us gals need so many tubes & jars to put on a face combined with hair care products not easily found outside of my everyday world. Upon seeing my face, without my "face", about 15 years ago, my mother commented that I looked like I had a vitamin deficiency...I don't want everyone in Italy to think the same thing!

Hi Mom,

Yes, our Fall foliage trip id Oct 1.

Enjoy Italy.
