Here's a question. I'm trying to figure the train schedules and the site requets the name of the station.(not the name of the city ) Where do you find the name of the station on their site for Padua? La Spezia? Something outside Florence with a car rental?
I bet you all are laughing right now.

In Padua, it's called Ralph. In La Spezia it's called Harold.

Sorry, not laughing at you, but with you. Huh? I've never had to know the "name" of the station to use the site.

If there is more that one rail station in the town then you will be asked to specify which one you want. For example, there are appear to be 3 in La Spezia.

There's only one in Padua, however. At the risk of asking the obvious, did you remember to use the Italian name - Padova?

Usually the name of the city IS the name of the station. Sometimes its better if you use the Italian spelling. Some cities have more than one station, so then it might be helpful to know the particular station.

For example, choosing Venice Metre versus Venice SL (Santa Lucia) would make a big difference.

Padua = Padova in Italian and I think there's just the one station.

JJB beat me to it, although I did mean to type Venice Mestre. The bigger cities tend to have more than one station, though one station in each city is usually considered the main, most important one.

Well, you are right. Thank you for your kind answer to a novice trenitalia user. However, I entered Venice and Padua and only got the station question for Padua. Padova, of course was right...Venice, Venezia...
Thanks again.
