trenitalia.com purchase problems

I have been trying to purchase advance tickets on trenitalia and even after having cleared the transaction with my credit card company, trenitalia keeps locking my account for security reasons. Anyone else have this problem ?

thanks!

Just had the same problem. Luckily it seems they don't put the transaction through your CC when they lock you out. I had to send them an email in italian in order for them to reactivate my account. I translated my text at:

Hi K,

For how long has your account been blocked?

If less than 5 days, give them a week.

Its only been a day. I tried redoing it from another email account and they blocked it even though the transaction was approved. So I am not quite sure what is going on.

Hi K,

On the other eml account, did you use the same CC?

It's possible that Trenitalia hasn't communicated with your CC company yet.

Yes, it was the same credit card. I guess I'll just have to wait for them to unlock my account.

k007-keep us updated on how this worked out..I was planning to book online some rome to venice tickets in march for our may trip. btw, did you get an email confirmation?

When this happened to me last summer, it was American Express doing me a "favor." After I bought one set of tickets on Trenitalia web site with American Express, an attempt to buy tickets for a different leg of our journey resulted in a freeze on my Trenitalia account. Advisors on this board told me the likely cause of the problem, and I called American Express. An American Express agent in ITALY (at least she spoke with a very strong Italian accent) told me that buying two sets of tickets on Trenitalia was "unusual" so my account had been frozen. It didn't seem unusual to me, but so it goes. In any case, Trenitalia reopened my account and subsequent purchases were no problem.

BTW, do NOT forget to tell your credit card companies when you'll be out of the country and charging from your foreign destinations - no sense in having your credit card account frozen in the midst of a wonderful vacation.

knoxvillecouple-do you suggest I call my c/c company before purchasing online with trenitalia, since from what you post, it is the c/c company "locking" the account??
and BTW, I agree with you alerting your c/c company of your trip abroad.
I always do this, and no embarrassing problems experianced because of it!

Hi D,

It is the CC company computer that is locking the account.

Tell them what you are going to do ahead of time.
