trenitalia
i have been trying to purchase my tickets online for travel between venice & florence. i keep getting error messages and cannot complete the purchase. anyone have any suggestions? i know others have used the website. thanks!

I don't know when you are travelling, but you can't buy tickets more than 60 days from your travel dates.
|
Or just buy your ticket from Venice to Florence when you get to Italy. There are lots of trains travelling this route.
|
Might have to do with the upcoming timetable changes, pretty much across Europe, around the 10th of December.
But as stated, don't worry, just walk up and buy the ticket, preferably the day before so you can reserve a seat if that's mandatory. Or take the next one, there's lots of connections. WK |
I booked some connections on trenitalia.com before visiting Italy in September this year -there have been similar threads on the subject in fodors - look them up- try emptying your cache/cookies, ensure you're note trying to purchase 60 days ahead of the travel date etc. - have you completed your registration and got a password ? in any case, getting tickets at the stations themselves is rather easy and trains dont tend to be overbooked.

i am traveling in 3 weeks. i think it does have soemthing to do with my cookies so i will try again. i was going to wait but i want a specific train i was worried about it being sold out. thanks everyone!!

Did you try the Italian version? Several months ago I found that I could do everything in the English version except book the ticket. The Italian version worked fine.
|
ok i give up! i have tried everything and it just will not work. i sent an email to trenitalai, i will see what they say. thanks for the suggestions!

MW - Unless you arrive in Venice the day you want to travel to Florence, book at the station or any travel agency when you're there.
Trains are so frequent on this route that it's never necessary to book more than a day in advance. Hope this helps ... Steve |
Hi MW,
Before you give up completely: Have you registered with trenitalia? You can't buy online until you do. How far can you go before you get an error message? ((I)) |
i have registered and i get as far as putting in the credit card info & when i hit the final enter (or buy - can't remember now). i get the error message..in italian...which i don't speak but and then an email in italian saying my acocunt has been disabled. i have tried it a few times and i cannot get it to go thru...even after having them reactivate my account. if you have another suggestion please let me know...thanks!
|
Did you check with your credit card company to make sure they're not blocking your purchase? This happened to us. Because it was a foreign purchase, they didn't allow it until I called them and had the block removed.
|
Good advice from kc.
((I)) |
my credit card called me to make sure the charge wasn't fraudulent...they blocked it at first but released it after we spoke...still no luck. i am just going to purchase my tickets when i get there. i thought i read someplace that agencies don't charge a fee for train tickets. is that true? anyone remember which one? that's for all the help!!!

There is absolutely no reason to book Trenitalia tickets in advance online. It is far simpler to buy them as needed from the machines at the station. It buy the tickets and want to make a change, it can be a real headache.

Hi mw,
You can buy your train tickets from any travel agent that has the Trenitalia sign. There is no (or very low) fee. ((I)) |
thanks...i am off tomorrow & i cannot wait!!!
