Trelleborg to Berlin

What is the best way to get from Trelleborg to Berlin? We will have Eurail passes. Thanks in advance.

A quick check on the German rail web site indicates that there are three boat and trains going to Berlin, two to Berlin Zoo and one to Berlin Lichtenberg. The trip lasts at least 7.5 hours. But at the same time it appears that there are 4 potential "Trelleborg" locations. Since you have a pass, all you need to do for this itinerary and others is to log into the rail web site (google German railway) and ask for specific itineraries.

happytourist,

The easiest option would probably be to take a bus to Malmy, then the night train to Berlin Ostbahnhof (it backtracks to Trelleborg to take the ferry). 9.5 hours journey time, runs daily.

Full timetable at:
www.tagplus.se

Train info (including reduced fare for passholders):
http://www.berlin-night-express.com/

However, your fastest option is to take the "Delphin" high speed catamaran from Trelleborg to Rostock (2hrs 55 min), then the direct train to Berlin (2 hrs. 48 min.). Don't know if your Eurail pass gives you a discount for the boat, the train would be free however.
Boat schedules & fares:

Train schedules & fares for the Rostock to Berlin portion:

There are also slower conventional ferries on the route, operated by TT Line (see above) and Scandlines:

Hope this helps,
Andre

For some reason, Malmo with an umlaut on the "o" turned to Malmy.

BTW, as Michael says, the German rail site lists various connections as well, but since they involve so many changes I figured they weren't worth the hassle. The night train isn't mentioned on the bahn.de site because it's operated by a private german company.

I've searched the Internet for hours trying to piece this together, and you all did it for me in a few minutes complete with websites I hadn't yet found. Thank you so much for your help.

happytourist,

you're welcome!

May I ask you why you will be in Trelleborg in the first place??

We're actually going to Grinstad, a small town near Mellerud, to see where my great-grandparents came from. Then we thought we would go to the Viking Museum in Trelleborg on our way to Berlin. Are there some other sights we should be seeing?
