ezlivin,
Re; Mr Ben Haines -- Perhaps you could read some of his posts, educate yourself. Blacktie, I am seeing a trend here. You have much to say on the boringness of all these threads on what to wear...perhaps the trick to avoid such boredom is to not read them and to control those urges to post replies on them? JohnG...if Capris are so last year..what is this year???? I must know soon! It is almost June and I do hate to be last year :D |
lol, insights, guidelines, anecdotes for all seasons, everywhere one looks!
|
Scarlett: Reading up and being educated by somebody whom we don't know nor care about in the corporate world that trained and made things very comfortable for me and my family is the least of my worries. Perhaps, unlike you, Haines would be more useful to me on my other travel needs, with the exception on how to dress-up

capri are tighter than other cropped pants; in the past there were clam diggers cut wider, a simple cropped pants for summer. Then there were toreador pants same as Capri really.

cigale you are a doll! Park that bike! Take care!

<There are several lines of dress that shout American Tourist, as a brass-buttoned blazer does>
LOL! How did a brass-buttoned blazer become the stereotype for poorly dressed American tourists? I can't think of the last time I saw anyone wearing one of those. I would think that brightly colored jogging/warm-up suits, baseball hats and t-shirts with sports team logos would better fit the stereotype. :) Note: I don't wear ANY of the above when I'm in London - or in the US for that matter. :) |
.. Kay, you devil, lol, I had on one yesterday! Don't say it, be nice, LOL ... tassel loafers too. Yikes, can you believe it. But it was okay, I was in the US of A.

I genuinely appreciate the thoughtful advice! The banter has been entertaining and interesting. It is our first trip to London and Paris-- and, at the least, now I know in which fashion direction to head!! Thanks so much everyone! Black is good... capris remain debatable, and, fashion decorum IS A MUST!!!!

From my normal wardrobe at home for the season I will be traveling in, I pick out my 5 best casual outfits or maybe 15 coordinating pieces that look good on me and are a reasonable packing materials. Stick with classics and basics. Add 3 pair shoes. Plan to layer to accomodate weather.
|
Suze, layering is good advice as well. Thanks!

Do you remember pedal pushers, Mimi? I think they were shorter than capris, tapered to the knee - shorter than torreador pants.
Capris are in every store in the malls in my area and in all the cute little boutiques in my town. I love my capris - I feel comfortable in them and I like how I look in them. I make sure they fit well - not too tight or too loose - just right like the porridge. It takes a while to find just the right fit and look. For me, they are a sensible warm weather choice along with skirts and some lightweight pants. I do not wear shorts unless I am gardening. Enjoy your trip, Mamagumu! |
and then there were the horrid burmuda shorts that we thought were cool back in the height of preppydom. Recently going through old things gave a few away in Madras. I still love that fabric for summer but hard to find like a good quality seersucker and demnity. Also my Tartan pleated skirts, shetland sweaters all in good shape. I made a few friends daughters happy, the quality is not around today.
