Travelling to Sicily in Aug. can someone give me hope?

I am travelling to Sicily from July 29th thru Aug. 9th with my husband and my 2 teenage daughters. From what I have read it is an awful time to travel there. We are visiting family in Sicily, and Aug. is the only time our only english speaking cousin can be there. Someone please tell me it won't be miserably hot and crowded!

This page allows you to search for average monthly temps, precipitation, etc. for just about any location.

You'll be visiting family, which will be fun. They obviously manage to survive August annually, so I'm sure you can manage it as well. You're only there for 10 days! :)

I think August is probably a great time to visit family in Italy. I'm visiting mine in Calabria in August, and have been told that it's the best time to be there. The town is full of people who have lived there and then moved (and their families), and also (at least in Calabria) there are local festivals. Not to mention great beach weather if you will be anywhere near one.

I just had this conversation with an elderly friend. He is planning to go to taormina this summer. i said that i thought it would be very hot. he said that he has previously done this trip in the summer and it was wonderful.

Sicily is so beautiful that you'll enjoy your visit no matter how torrid the weather will be. I find that it really helps to do your open-air sightseeing before 10 a.m., and staying indoors (museums, hotels, family) between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Thank you all for your confirmation! I began to fear the heat and the crowds. Before we meet our family we will be staying in Taormina for a couple of days. Then visiting our family for about 7 days, then heading for Rome for 2 days. Now I just need a flight from Rome to Sicily, and a resonably priced hotel in Rome.

From Rome to Sicily, check out Alitalia, Air One, Meridiana, and Volareweb.
