Travelling to Florence

Hi guys, just looking for some advice. My husband and I and our 2 sons are in Tirano/Lovero area visiting relatives in October this year. We then are moving on to Florence for 4 nights. What is the best transport method? Do we have to train it through Milan? Have been there before and would rather avoid it. Thought of going via Verona, but can't see a direct train link. Buses?? Or hire a car and drive? Would love some suggestions.

Hi Marcie - Train via Milan is your fastest public transport option.

An alternative by train but avoiding Milan would be via Lecco-Bergamo-Brescia-Verona - but this involves several changes - so would be very time-consuming

Another public transport option is train via Lecco to Bergamo, then bus to Florence.

Hire a car and drive? Would you need a car in Tuscany? If yes - why not?

But you don't want a car in Florence owing to strict enforcement of pedestrian zones, the volume of traffic, and the difficulty of finding parking.
