travelling to europe
 

This is my 1st time to europe, will b in london for a few days before proceeding to brussels. Pls advise what is there for me to see besides the norm attraction like the parliament house etc. Would like to go to trafalgar sq, eye of london and would want to shop in harrods. but dunno how to go about, are these places near to each other. and how far is thistle euston htl frm st pancras YHA hostel in cardington street, is taxi expensive?

A first time visitor should probably get a guide book or two for the area to be visited, and then refine the travels through recommendations by individuals on this or other boards.

PS, to get started, click on Destinations at the top of the screen, and figure out what your priorities in London sightseeing are. You might want to consider a guided walking tour.

If you like to walk, you can see a lot by foot. My sister and I walked for hours on end, we also took the tube, and the bus. All you need is a good guide book, with a map.

We bought a copy of The London Mapguide by Michael Middleditch, which has good maps and info - all the bus routes, Tube stations and maps, etc.

Try Google Maps to figure out where the hostel and hotel are in relation to each other.

If you are a WWII buff, you'd probably enjoy seeing Churchill's War Rooms. It's the underground bunker area from which Churchill ran the war effort. Very interesting!
Also, we enjoyed the Jack the Ripper Walking Tour.
Another highlight was taking in a concert at St. Francis of the Field.

Hi, I too am going to London (May!!) and have gotten some great responces from the Fodor's community. I picked up a book called th London city guide by lonely planet. It is fantastic. It has a wealth of info about London, along with maps, where to eat, where to sleep etc. The only thing is you may want to double check the prices as every thing seems to be going up(The U.S. dollar is extreamly weak right now).Not sure where you're from. Also you might want to look at the london pass, and maybe the oyster card. Both seem to be pretty good deals. Hope this helps:)
