Travelling to Croatia - Do I need to book accommodation

My friend and I are travelling to Dubrovnik and will continue to make our way to Korchula, Hvar, Split. As we are quite unsure of our itinerary, we are reluctant to book apartments before travelling. Does anyone have any advise here. Is this a bit risky, or should that be okay in terms of getting reasonably priced rooms / apartments? We will be in Croatia the first 2 weeks in August.

Thanks for your feedback!

I do believe you may have some trouble getting rooms/apartments as this late date. We are talking the high season in very popular places. Split should not be a problem.

I recommend finalizing your itinerary as soon as possible...that being today...and make your reservations.

The best place for reservations is the Dubrovnik Apartment Source. We use them all the time. Here is their website. Check for available rooms/apartments right away.

Good luck!

There are vast numbers of Sobe, rooms in people's houses, that are rented in an informal market that may involve the owner meeting the ferry or standing at the bus station holding a sign. You couldn't book them in advance if you tried. Some of these will be nicer or more convenient or cheaper than others, but if you are willing to adapt -- and you aren't going to be anywherre for very long, I don't think you will have to sleep in the bus station.

I think you should check the local websites where you can find the information about hotels, accomodations, and leisure deals.

When I was planning a trip with my family last year, my friend asked me to check http://vitky.com/ website to get accommodation at affordable price with local tourist and leisure deals. And, it really worked for me and my family.

August is tricky. Many Europeans head down to Croatia for summer holiday. That said, most online places might be booked out, also those that partner with agencies. You can still be lucky and find authentic places where they'd let you stay but it's definitely a risk.

If you arrive at a spot where you'll have the whole day for searching an accommodation, then go for it. But you must be comfortable with the risk of spending a full day searching for a place to sleep rather than discovering the area.

In August you should book accommodation, because all the Europeans are traveling too and Dubrovnik is very popular!
