traveller's cheques

I was just interested if anyone would suggest using traveler's cheques on the greek islands. Naxos, Paros and Santorin. Thanks

No. I wouldn't use them anywhere. They are dinosaurs. It will cost you money to buy them and money to exchange them (if you can even find a place to do that), and no one will take them as payment. All you need is an ATM card for cash and small purchases and a credit card for larger ones.

No. Each has a competent tourist infrastructure, which means they have ATMs. This is 2011, not 1986, travelers' checks are basically useless in Western Europe (and likely all of Central and Eastern too).

no, see above

No one uses travelers' cheques anymore.

thanks we still use them in Canada. I guess that is the old country.

They are becoming a historical curiosity.

I'm Canadian and haven't used them since ATMs appeared 20 some years ago. Don't take them to Europe!

I actually found out that our hotel on Santorini took traveler's checks so I dug up all the old ones I had laying around the house and used them to pay for a couple nights' stay, but I wouldn't suggest going out and buying them today.

Do they actually still issue traveler's checks?

ljs123tennis may use travellers cheques in Canada but many of the rest of us depend on modern ATM cards with embedded chips, just like Europe and well ahead of our big US neighbour. Please note my patriotic spellings, too.
