Traveling with Prescription in UK and Italy

I got a prescription for anti-anxiety meds for the plane rides I will be taking. I forgot to possibly ask for a copy of the prescription, so all I currently have is the prescription bottle with my name. I will have about 4 pills or so.

Do I need to get a copy of the written prescription in case customs or immigration asks me about my prescription?

This is what the handbook from my daughter's school in Perugia has to say about meds:

"Keep in mind that drugs approved in the U.S. may be banned in other countries. The Italian government considers certain drugs illegal (including Ritalin, Cylert, Adderall, Wellbutrin, Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft). Anyone found with these medications without appropriate physician approval can be prosecuted. Contact the Italian Consulate in your jurisdiction for additional information.

Any prescription medication that you carry with you to Italy must be accompanied by your physician's written description of the medical problem, the dose of the medication and the generic name(s). Prescription medications must remain in their original containers."

that said, i've carried prescriptions around Europe for years and no one has ever glanced at them - actually in 30 years of annual European trips crossing zillions of borders in the pre-Schengen Accord days i've never been searched except once upon return to the U.S. I just can't see anyone caring about a prescription bottle with your name on it carrying 4 pills - this should be of no concern to you at all in my opinion.

I have travelled many years without being asked about my medications. I believe that the security people have more important concerns than your 4 pills. ((R))

I wouldnt worry about it. I always bring xannax or valiums and ambien for the plane and my bottles are filled.

never been searched or asked. Your bottle has most of the information right on it as in doctors name and dosage.

Hi B,

Bring your pills in the Rx bottle.

Don't worry.
