I am taking my children on a European tour. Do you know of any child-friendly hotels (with indoor swimming pools), restaurants and general things to do?

How old are the kids? How many? Genders?

Depending on the above you may get completely different answers.

In general, an indoor swimming pool will up the price of your accommodation significantly. Depending on your budget, it may be better to look for a separate sports center.

A few years ago we stayed at the Westin Grand in Berlin. This is considered to be a 4* or 5* hotel, and they have a swimming pool, but it's tiny. It's also part of a spa complex, so really didn't seem like a place for kids to have fun (not that kids would be thrown out, but it just didn't seem like that sort of atmosphere).

I notice that the Hotel Novotel Berlin Am Tiergarten offers indoor playing areas for children, and it also offers free accommodation for two children under 16, but no pools.

One alternative, if a hotel with a pool is out of financial reach (only very high end hotels will have them), is to take the kids to a public indoor pool; some of them even have water slides. I did that with my son in Zurich once while I searched for a hotel room on an unplanned excursion from our home exchange base in the Black Forest. While I found the hotel, he swam and played around for a couple of hours. I also had a bit of peace and quiet. He was 13 or 14, so I had a bit more freedom to leave him at that age. Also, he was an excellent swimmer. He even met an American kid (who was living in Switzerland) there.
