Traveling with children in Berlin
I am taking my children on a European tour. Do you know of any child-friendly hotels (with indoor swimming pools), restaurants and general things to do?

You don;t need to do a separate post on each country.
Also - the same questions apply. How old are the kids? How many? Genders? Depending on the above you may get completely different answers. |
In general, an indoor swimming pool will up the price of your accommodation significantly. Depending on your budget, it may be better to look for a separate sports center.
A few years ago we stayed at the Westin Grand in Berlin. This is considered to be a 4* or 5* hotel, and they have a swimming pool, but it's tiny. It's also part of a spa complex, so really didn't seem like a place for kids to have fun (not that kids would be thrown out, but it just didn't seem like that sort of atmosphere). I notice that the Hotel Novotel Berlin Am Tiergarten offers indoor playing areas for children, and it also offers free accommodation for two children under 16, but no pools. |
I have a boy, 6, and a girl, 11.

One alternative, if a hotel with a pool is out of financial reach (only very high end hotels will have them), is to take the kids to a public indoor pool; some of them even have water slides. I did that with my son in Zurich once while I searched for a hotel room on an unplanned excursion from our home exchange base in the Black Forest. While I found the hotel, he swam and played around for a couple of hours. I also had a bit of peace and quiet. He was 13 or 14, so I had a bit more freedom to leave him at that age. Also, he was an excellent swimmer. He even met an American kid (who was living in Switzerland) there.
