Traveling to Wales UK
 

My husband and I are going to Wales in the end of August this year for a week. We would love to have tips about where to stay, The most recommended sites, , how many days to stay in the south of Wales / Mid Wales / north Wales, and where do you recommend to look for hotels/B&B? Thank you.

Questions
1) Are you hiring a car or using public transport?
2) What do you like to do, surf bunnies, walkers, mountain climbers?

My special place is http://www.cat.org.uk/index.html the alternative energy centre, which a way out of Aberdovey, which is a great area for walking, river walking, sailing etc, but other people like other things.

Terrific! There's so much to see and do in Wales.

To narrow things down, I'd suggest you peruse a good guidebook -- Rough Guide Wales and Lonely Planet Wales are both nicely-detailed, and there are others with lots of photos -- and figure out what excites you. Castles? Beaches? Towns? Farms? Do you want to hike?

The single most important consideration is whether you'll be driving or relying on public transportation. There are a lot of places in Wales that are difficult / time-consuming to reach without a car.

Thank you. We will have a car. I read about the cat center and it's sounds very interesting.
We love to walk at the nature for few hours each time. Also like to see some of the castles. We are not sure if we should make reservation for hotels/B&B in advance or to do it during traveling. Is it very busy at this time of the year(25/8 - 2/9)? Also how many days at each place you recommend?

At the end of high season so if I wanted a special place I'd book. Also bank holiday weekend on the 28th, for the Friday through Sunday night I'd def book.

It depends, but I'd aim for a min of 2 nights but some (like that weekend) 3 nights.

You won't be able to see the whole of Wales in a week. A stay in North Wales would give you castles and Snowdonia or there is the beautiful county of Pembrokeshire in the far south west. or the Brecon beacons and welsh marches.

I would want to stay at least 3 nights in each place so as to have plenty of time to explore and do some walking.

I spent a week in North Wales and loved it -so much to see and do in a compact area.

Conwy is the perfect small village still with medieval ramparts and a great base- check out the Great Orme - very close - Beaumarais Castle - Caernarveron (sp?) Castle - Snowdon Railway - and many other neat places.
