Traveling to Spain
My husband and I have a trip planned to Spain this summer from July 24- August 5 with our four kids ages 16, 14, 9, and 7. We had planned the vacation about a year ago, but with the current economy we are definitely rethinking this trip. We have some hotel reservations, but would like to try to find some less expensive options. Our plan was to go from Madrid to Seville to Granada to Vallencia to Mallorca to Barcelona. Any suggestions as to hotel options that are cost effective but centrally located and preferably with a pool (it is going to be HOT). Also looking for ideas of what to do with the kids- tours, restaurants, etc.

You have planed on a lot of moving around in 10 or so days . It will reduce your time in cities and increase cost of transportation. Are you driving?
You might to better off ( financially) renting apartments and just concentrating on 2 (max 3) spots with side trips.

Sorry to say that, but this is an itinerary for a 4-week-trip. Within 10 days, it is undoable.
Each place deserves at least three days, and do not forget transportation between places.
Besides, it will be way too hot for Andalucia.
I suggest, you concentrate on Madrid, Barcelona and Costa Brava.

There are many levels of accomodations in Sapin. Some will not have taht many creature comforts.
Below is url for infomational purposes which will explain pensiones and other types of places to stay.
You can consider apartments as well.

As others have told you, this sounds like an undoable itinerary.
Why not consider going north? Spain has beautiful beaches in the north, like San Sebastian and Santander.
I would stay away from the South during July/August.

My husbands firm has offices in Madrid, and this itinerary was suggested to us by one of his collegues there. Our original plan was three nights in Madrid, 1 in Seville and Granada, 2 in Vallencia (we have friends there we just wanted to stop to see briefly, 2 in Mallorca (we purchased flights to and from) and 3 in Barcelona. Should we cut out Seville and/ or Granada? We splurged on hotels in Granada and Mallorca (600- 800 euro a night) but in the rest of the areas we have found hotels are between $250 and $300 euro a night (for 2 rooms). We were planning on using train bw Madrid/ Seville/ Granada, driving to Valencia bc we heard it was a beautiful drive, and flying back and forth from Mallorca.

By the time you pack 6 people, get to a train station, travel for about 3 hours, get to a hotel, check in ,unpack, you will have lost half a day each time. The temp. in Granada and Seville (and often Madrid) during most of the day is 100 degrees which is not the best sightseeing weather.
I don' know who planned your itinerary but I would cut it at least by half.

really...why not got straight to valencia ( seeing friends i imagine is important).. you have the beach, and many sites.. museums, and some cool navigatible caves to the north ( vall dúxó, sant josep), after you spend a little more time in madrid seeing the hub around it.
although it is hot, you have to the north some nice towns.. segovia, la granja, pedraza..

If you do decide to go to Granada, I suggest reserving time in the Alhambra now. If you go to Barcelona, I think your kids would enjoy the Gaudi architecture and the Park Guell. Re the rest of your trip, I agree with other posters about cutting down on the number of cities you see.

Hi we just got back from Spain. We stayed in apartments and B+B's. Much cheaper and convenient than hotels. We booked through, inside BCN for Barcelona, Habitat apartments for Madrid and Top rural for some off the beaten track places. Not many hotels have pools in the larger cities. Valencia has a beach but the water is polluted there so I wouldn't swim. Many great small towns with beaches along the Costa Brava. I think you you should cut it down to Madrid, A beach town near Valencia and Barcelona. otherwise your kids will revolt and you"ll need a holiday from the holiday

here are the beaches that received the blue flag for top quality. others not receiving the flag are also good in many cases, just not top quality.
