Traveling to Slovenia
I am travelling to Slovenia with my better half at the end of the month. Any tips on the best places to see within only five days? I know it is a small country, but there seems like so much to do from all of my reading. Also, any hotel suggestions would be appreciated ... thanks.

Go to Lake Bled! I was there about four years ago and it is one of the most gorgeous little towns in Europe, and totally undiscovered. There is a small island in the middle of the lake with a little faux castle on it, and the alpine mountains form an incredible back drop. It's about a half hour cab ride from the airport. I stayed at the Grand Hotel Toplice, sort of faded elegance with great balconies on to the lake. I would go back in a heartbeat. Great fish restaurants around the lake too. We visited there on the recommendation of a friend who was posted to the US Embassy in Slovenia.

The capital Ljubljana is one of the nicest in Europe. One day is enough, though. Postojna caves and Piran at the coast.

Definitely Lake Bled. Don't miss Lake Bohinj too. The Postojna Caves were amazing.

Steve

Thanks for the replies. Will do as suggested.

If you like to do outdoorsy things, check out www.humanfish.com. This is a Slovene owned adventure travel outfit. I took a one day rafting trip with them last August and had a blast! I found them at a little kiosk in Bled.

Will be there for 6 days in Oct. Plan to do 2 nites in Ljubljana, 2 in the Lakes area, and 2 on the coast. It looks fascinating--cannot wait. The only negative is car rental return into Italy--will probably just drop car and train to Venice from Trieste.
