Traveling to Sesame Street
I thought I would share this travel tip, since we don't want to go off-topic:
If I were traveling to Sesame Street this week, I'd be very upset. It seems that the Children's Television Workshop has decided that Cookie Monster's name is no longer PC due to the rising tide of child obesity. So, they are going to eliminate his cookie obsession and have him promote more healthful eating. I can only guess, will he now be known as Celery Monster? Or, the Monster Formerly Known As Cookie? |
Oh no! :O
Then I guess we will have to think of something like Big Hairy Monster would probably be hard on men with too much hair on their backs..banned by the PC police too:( Slim Monster might bring out those with sensitivity to eating disorders etc. Monster might even be un-PC somewhere? How about Big Blue Muppet? |
This really is way off-topic (never thought of Sesame Street as being in Europe!), but what I heard was NOT that the Cookie Monster's name was being changed but just that he was going to modify his diet. His theme song has apparently been changed to "Cookies are a Sometime Thing."

A former colleague sent me a link to this story. It even made the BBC! I wrote back to her suggesting that all those Sesame Street characters need to get more exercise. Last time I watched, all they did was nod their heads.
My favourite character: Oscar the Grouch. My kind of guy. Anselm |
Why can't he just eat and promote fat free or organic cookies ? Newman's Own makes a yummy mint chocolate version....
|
LOL!!!
Thanks for posting elaine. I prefer "Brussel Sprout Monster" or "Brocolli Monster" personally |
I take great offense that a "monster" would be used as a "role model" no matter what he eats! Talk about politically incorrect. Next they'll have Big Bird becoming a gymnast. And I'm not looking forward to Flipping a Big Bird on a child's program!!

"cookies are a sometimes food"!!!!
|
nonnafelice, isn't Sesame Street in Europe? :)
What I always liked about Sesame Street was the subtlety of the humor that would keep adults from going crazy if they had to watch it with their little ones. I always used to smile at "Fargo North, Decoder" for example. But I guess we're not allowed to just hope that parents will be able to teach their kids that CM's confectionary disability isn't to be taken literally. Maybe Cookie can join a behavior mod group on the show? |
Before you know it, Bert and Ernie won't be able to share a room!
Silly PC!! Carrot Monster? Aerobic Monster? Oh no, that guy is on cable, from Hawaii, anyone know who I mean? LOL |
