Traveling to Italy for 10 days, with some outdoor adventure!

My wife and I are planning a trip to Italy for 12 days at the end of October/Early November and would love help from anyone who has been! We plan on spending time in Rome as our flights will most likely arrive and depart from there, but for this time of year what direction should we go? We have thought about heading south after 4-5 days in Rome to see the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Naples, but would it be better to go north to see other places? We also enjoy being outdoors so if there are some decent day hikes that you know of either within a day trip of Rome or elsewhere, we would love your input! Thanks so much!

Well where you go depends on what you want to see Get a guide book and look at pics and see what area pulls you!

Some outdoor type places might be the Dolomites or Cinque Terre...

Oh and to save time, book open jaw flights so you dont have to backtrack.

If you are booking your flights on line, look for the "multi-city" option in the initial search box. That allows you to search for open jaw flights, into one city and out of another. Some people have the notion that it costs more, but that is not the case.

That time of year I would head south---Rome plus the AC are perfect for 10 days.
