Hausfrau (and everyone else) - thank you so much for the information. I am personally not going to be there - I am getting information for my husband and his friend, and I am sharing all of these posts with them. They are very serious about driving, and have a lot of racing experience (autocross, Baja offroad races, etc.)
The driving lesson is a great idea!!
Thanks again, everyone!

That's good news. Too many times people have asked about the Nuerburgring here who clearly have no idea what they are getting themselves into. I hope they have a fantastic time.
I'm sure they've seen lots of pictures of the Ring but here are a few they might enjoy from a "touristenfahrer" perspective:

This is Marco, Kim's Husband. My wife is awesome and posted here on my behalf. I wanted to thank you all for the great information. I will be renting a track prepared car for the Nurburgring, thank you for that advice. I have a bit of racing experience. I have enough experience to know that there is no need to push myself on an unfamiliar track, I just want to enjoy the ride. I also wanted to thank you all for the excellent advice on driving the Autobahn. The links to the road signs and what cars to rent are very helpful.
Cheers!
Marco
