For the double compartment, do you mind sharing with a stranger (another woman)? I am fairly certain unless you pay extra to have it to yourself, you may end up with a roommate. This may or may not make a difference in your decision.
I loved my few experiences on an overnight train (but I lucked into having the compartment to myself when I was solo, and the other times was traveling with another person). You don't (at least I didn't) really get a great night's sleep, because of the train motion. Yes it is safe. There is nothing to see after dark.
