Traveling in Krk and Cres in Croatia

My husbands grandparents are from Krk in Cres. 7 members of our family are traveling over to Croatia for 9 days in Mid May we plan on spending 3 nights exploring the 2 islands. Does anyone have any recommendations for accomodations for such a large group. It has been suggested to us that Cres is a day trip from Krk and should spend all 3 nights on Krk. Is that correct? We will have a car but not sure we can take the rental on the ferry over to Cres. Could we visit without car? What are the must do/see things for these islands?

I definitely recommend spending a day exploring Cres. What a lovely opportunity for you. I only passed through Cres on the way to Losinj other than a brief visit into Osor, and I have not visited Krk, but I have visited the country four times--one of my favorite places on earth!
From driving across Cres, I saw stunning natural beauty but unfortunately did not get to experience the small towns such as Beli (read about its vultures) and Lubenice. These are very quiet places, certainly so in May.

Here are some resources about Cres (you can find similar websites for Krk, such as http://www.krk.hr/en/ and http://www.tz-krk.hr/en/):

You will need a car to travel around Cres. First find out if your rental car can go on the ferry, as that would be the easiest way.
Here you can find the car ferry schedules: http://www.jadrolinija.hr/en/sailing...0---31-12-2016
(It travels between Valbiska and Merag.)
Alternatively, you may be able to do an organized tour (I'd contact a tourist office in Krk and ask about that.)
Or, you might be able to arrange something on Cres where they pick you up at the ferry port.
There is bus service, but I don't think it would do you any good:

As for accommodation, it is quite common to rent apartments (a house in your case). I'd start by searching the listings on the home page of the Krk websites I pasted above, according to which town you wish to stay in. Under "Accomodation" there is a section called "family accommodation." There are few email address, mostly phone number contacts--if you have a relative in country perhaps they can help arrange? Otherwise, contact the tourist office and ask them to assist you. Find these on the Krk city website http://www.tz-krk.hr/en/where-to-sta...urist-agencies

good luck!

I have only been to Krk and that was just a day trip, but I thought it was beautiful! I remember visiting a monastery) and a peaceful walk around its grounds and through the woods. It was in midMay.
